As Marketing Manager, my key role is to make up cow-related puns. It’s a moovelous job J. Seriously though, we believe that the best way to find new customers is through existing customers. So, most of my time is dedicated to understanding and improving the customer experience, being sure our offers are competitive, and helping us fulfill on the Heifercratic Oath, which is our support pledge. I also manage our advertising efforts and our affiliate program.

FatCow, what an interesting name for a hosting company, tell us about the idea behind it.

FatCow was born in 1998, and from the start it was designed to be a different alternative in Web hosting. We looked around and saw tons of techno babble, confusing hosting plans and packages, and not much in the way of customer satisfaction or support. We believed that life was hard enough, so why try to complicate things? That is why we pioneered the “one plan one price” philosophy back in ‘98 with our FatCow plan. While the plan has changed to include even more great features and services, the original concept behind the plan has not - a simpler, more customer friendly approach in Web hosting with that personal touch that would keep customers around for years to come.

What makes FatCow different from the other hosting companies?

FatCow has focused our entire company on delivering the best value and customer service experience in Web hosting, while also having fun. We make every effort to make our services affordable, easy to use and most importantly to provide real business value. We pride ourselves on going the extra mile for our customers and making sure all their needs are being taking care of.

Can you please tell us about the “HeiferCratic Oath” on your site.

It may sound funny, but we take customer support very seriously. That’s why we choose the name for our pledge, similar to the Hippocratic Oath. We understand, when our customers have a question or technical issue, they want someone to be there for them with an enthusiastic can-do attitude. That’s just what people get when they contact our support team. If we don’t deliver a positive support experience we’ll give a customer a free month of hosting, the customer gets a free month of hosting. We put our money where our mouth is.

FatCow offers its own Control Panel to its customers, why did you choose this control panel over others?

We choose to build our own Control Panel because we have the infrastructure and engineering resources in- house to build a great Control Panel. Our in-house control panel was developed in such a way so that we can customize it easily to meet our customer’s requirements. We know our customers best! We’re constantly conducting usability studies on all our tools and we wanted to be able to quickly make changes that would benefit our customers right away. Using a third party control panel means we would have had to rely on that company to determine when and what changes would be made. That just didn’t make sense to us, so we created our own in-house Control Panel.

Where do you see FatCow in the years to come and its role in the Web hosting industry?

We are proud to say that 2008 marked our 10th anniversary. We hit this great milestone because we listened to people’s needs, we created the right solutions for them and we did this with a strong passion for great support. We plan to continue this formula for success; the sky’s the limit in terms of future growth for FatCow.
